Beginning Cabochon Cutting is the first DVD MarZee Tutorials produced. We really took great care crafting a tutorial that after watched by a total novice, could learn all the steps and then cut and polish a cab. Jim Barzee is our Lapidary Artist and narrator.
The DVD begins with selecting a preform. Freeform or using a template, picking the slab and marking it is the first step. Chapter 2 offers two ways to rough out the blank. Using a trim (or tile saw) or using a lapidary band saw! What a wonderful tool this is! Hardly any waste and this can move quickly.
Again, with the dopping chapter, there is more than one way shown to do it.
Chapter 4 demystifies the entire cab cutting process as it shows how to cut your cab in real time! And it can go so quickly!
Jim Barzee and his dulcet tones address cab cutting theory in the next section. This focuses on the to-be-avoided orange peel finish.
Jim also talks and draws out bezels, bevels and all manner of angles to be considered when cutting cabs for use in jewelry that you or others may be making.
The last chapter wraps us up with grinding, polishing and the summary. Polishing is very important and Jim has a few swell tips.
